This spring break, the mural proposed last spring by student artist Santiago Leyba and later approved by the Art Collection Management Committee and the student Senate will be installed in the Gray Campus Center (replacing the large wall painting by Tessa Hulls). Tessa Hull’s work was painted in 2006 as part of her Studio Art thesis, but after eight years of exhibition, Leyba’s dynamic abstract mural will be replacing it.
Although Hull’s painting will be missed, campus murals are given a “life span” to ensure that multiple students have the opportunity to create and contribute to the visual landscape of the college. As numerous campus murals are eligible to be replaced, proposals for new murals will be announced after spring break. A reception sponsored by the Senate murals committee and the Cooley Gallery will be held in the Gray Campus Center atrium following the mural’s installation at a soon to be announced date.
